Volunteer Opportunities
If you enjoy working outside, don’t mind getting mucky and want to learn new skills why not have a go at either conservation volunteering with the Ranger Service or volunteering in the Victorian Walled Garden at Mugdock Country Park.
We also welcome groups and individuals who want to volunteer as part of an award, through their business or just want to make a positive contribution to their local area.

MCV meet at 10am every Monday and every second Saturday in the Ranger Service Office at Mugdock Country Park Visitor Centre. Everyone over 16 years old is very welcome on either day, just wear strong footwear and old clothes. Lunch is provided, and work usually stops around 3pm. The group is led by a ranger and no previous experience is needed as all training is provided. The group work both within Mugdock Country Park and out in the wider countryside of East Dunbartonshire.

Recently MCV constructed a floating island, repaired a boardwalk and removed invasive plant species from vulnerable grassland.

Contact the Ranger Service to find out meeting dates and more information.

Merkland Local Nature Reserve was formed on the former site of Meiklehill Colliery in east Kirkintilloch. Merkland Conservation Group formed in May 2003 to carry out practical conservation work in the Reserve. Activities have included tree thinning, fence repairs and removal and wildlife surveys.

The group meet once every month on a Saturday from 10.30am to 3pm. We meet in the Reserve car park off Merkland Drive in Kirkintilloch. Everyone is welcome whether you can be there all day or just for an hour or two. You need to be aged 16 or over and wear old clothes and strong footwear and bring lunch if staying all day. No previous experience is necessary and all tools and training are provided by the Countryside Ranger Service.

Contact the Ranger Service to find out meeting dates and more information.
